What is the Harry Chapin Run Against Hunger?:
The Harry Chapin Memorial Run Against Hunger has been raising awareness and funds to fight hunger since 1981, (the year Harry Chapin died in a car accident at age 38) through walks and runs in Croton-on-Hudson, NY.
According to their website, in 41 consecutive years they've raised $620,000! Additionally, they've had 69 sponsors support this event which benefits 5 Westchester county-based non-organizations.
This event is near and dear to our hearts for two main reasons:
- It takes place in the town where we got our start.
- As a family, it has been a tradition of ours since we moved to Croton-on-Hudson, over 20 years ago.
We started this business knowing that we wanted to in part, use it as a way to give back to our community. So, we were so excited for the Harry Chapin Run Against Hunger to be the first even that Dam Good™ English Muffins sponsored!

In our second year of sponsoring the Harry Chapin Run Against Hunger we extended the tradition beyond our family! We invited our employees, who we like to think of as an extension of our family, to participate with us!
That being said, since COVID had already hit, the event was hosted virtually. Our team did the "Fun Run" walk, which we started at our wholesale bakery in Peekskill, NY. We walked along the Peekskill, NY Riverwalk, and stopped for ice cream at the The Hudson Creamery! Below are some pictures of us and our staff during our virtual walk:
As the pandemic persisted, the Harry Chapin Run Against Hunger race coordinators gave the option to do the walk/run remotely. Since we had such a nice time in 2020 on our virtual walk, we decided to do it again. We started our Fun Run at our wholesale bakery, in Peekskill, NY, and walked along the Peekskill, NY Riverwalk and ended at the Hudson Creamery for some delicious ice cream. Pictured below are some photos of the participating muffineers throughout the event:
In 2022, for the fourth year, Dam Good™ English Muffins sponsored the event.
We continue to be excited at the opportunity to sponsor and participate in this event each year, which allows us contribute to our community, and Do Dam Good™!
